I was thinking about how people seem to be going to Church a whole lot more as they get older. Then, it dawned on me... they're cramming for their final exams.
I feel that:
The more studying you did for the exam, the less sure you are as to which answer they want.
80% of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed and the one book you didn’t read.
If you are given an open-book exam, you will forget your book.
If you are given a take-home exam, you will forget where you live.
To those of you who received honors, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the C students, I say you too may one day be president of the United States.
Mel's Causal Theory of Reference
My theory is used to describe reference in regard to all sorts of reference-bearing terms, in this case, examinal terms (Yong, 2008).
-
1. You will never find the time for anything. If you want the time, you must make it.
-
E.g. You are always free to play a "feng" of 'Mahjong' or a few rounds of the new trend in 'Brisbane town' - Command & Conquer Generals Zero-hour. However, when it gets to sitting your ass down to study, you somehow can't seem to even start it. Are you gonna wait for God to bestow upon you wisdom & rely on your self-proclaimed "xiao chong ming" (born-with intelligence) to help you then? If so... carry on, by all means I wish you good luck.
-
2. If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin.
-
E.g. You decide to wait for your friend's phonecall to go to uni to study together, your friend is caught up with something else, you wait again. You arrive at uni, everyone is having a break time and are having ongoing human interaction. you join in. When you decide it's time to start, they decide to go out for a snack, for dinner or for a cigarette joint, you follow. When will you ever begin?
-
3. One of the best uses of your time is to increaseyour competence in your key result areas.
-
E.g. If you think it's impossible to do one section of your exam, focus on the ones you do best. This is more like a generative cognitive denotation than a conotation or myth.
-
4. All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.
-
E.g. When your friends or colleagues ask you, "what do you wanna be when you graduate?" You pause & you think. Do you have a real honest answer to that question? Which roots down to whether you have a Goal in the first place.
-
5. It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.
-
E.g. Why bother about what people say about, how bad or well you have done now. In the end, you'll have the same certificate as them. Why bother about what people say about you being a "nobody" in future when an empty vessel makes the most noise & actions speaks louder than words.
-
The right man is the one who seizes the moment. Just like whenever an individual or a business decides that success has been attained, progress stops. Where much is expected from an individual, he may rise to the level of events and make the dream come true. Quality is never an accident because it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution - it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.
